Pedro Pascal is set to star in a new Western titled “Strange Way of Life” alongside Ethan Hawke, and queer fans are already buzzing about the potential for romance between the two actors.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar, the film follows the story of Silva (Pascal), a gunslinging cowboy who sets out to find his former love interest, Sheriff Jake (Hawke), after 25 years apart. Almodóvar has hinted at a romantic relationship between the two characters, describing the film as his version of “Brokeback Mountain.”
For Pascal, the chance to work with Almodóvar and Hawke was too good to pass up, despite his already busy schedule with “The Last of Us” season two and “The Mandalorian.” Speaking to Insider, Pascal shared his excitement about the project, saying, “It could have been anything that he asked me to do, and I would have done it without question.”
Almodóvar, who is openly gay, is known for his groundbreaking films that explore themes of sexuality and gender, including the Oscar-winning “All About My Mother” and “Talk To Her.” In “Strange Way of Life,” he continues his exploration of masculinity and intimacy through the lens of a Western genre.
While the full plot of the film has not been revealed, the prospect of seeing two beloved actors play queer characters in a Western is already generating excitement among fans. As Pascal and Hawke’s characters ride through the desert on horseback, audiences will be eagerly anticipating what the future holds for their relationship.
“Strange Way of Life” is currently in production, and no release date has been announced yet. For now, fans will have to wait in anticipation for this groundbreaking queer Western to hit the big screen.
