In July, Queer News Tonight reported that President Biden had nominated Chantale Wong for an ambassador-level position. On Tuesday she was confirmed by the Senate in a 66-31 vote, making her the first openly lesbian and first openly LGBTQ+ person of color to be nominated to such a position. Wong, who is Asian American, brings to the role more than 30 years of experience in finance, technology and the environment, according to a White House news release. She previously served as acting budget director at the Treasury Department and as NASA’s budget director. She will now serve as U.S. director of the Asian Development Bank.
