Jeanne Manford marched in the New York City Pride in 1972 with her son after he was assaulted while handing out pro-gay fliers at a political rally. That was the beginning of PFLAG. 5 years ago, a local post office in Queens was named after Jeanne and her husband Jules. Recently AOC, seemingly unaware of the history of the Manfords, suggested that the post office be renamed after LGBTQ+ activist Lorena Borjas. While Borjas was known as the mother of the transgender Latinx community in Queens, many are blasting AOC for her lack of knowledge of LGBTQ+ history.
