On Thursday, Queer News Tonight reported on the comments made by Senator Marco Rubio on Twitter about the Respect For Marriage Act. Also in an interview with Christian Hall from Punchbowl News, Senator Rubio had previously stated that gay people don't care about marriage saying, "I don't know why we're doing that bill, there's no threat to its status in America. But I know plenty of gay people in Florida that are pissed off about gas prices. On Wednesday when speaking to reporters on his way to an elevator, Rubio said that the Respect for Marriage Act was a "Stupid Waste of Time". Openly gay Senator Tammy Baldwin was on the elevator with him after he made those comments, and she recently spoke about her response on CNN.
