With just one remaining in two critical runoffs for the U.S. Senate in Georgia, an unprecedented effort is unfolding to turn out LGBTQ and progressive voters for the two candidates embracing equality issues. But this special runoff election has dramatically greater effect on the American LGBTQ community than just the residents of Georgia. The outcome of the election will have a significant effect on at least the next two years of what happens in Washington. The democrats winning the two seats will mean majority control, with Vice President Kamala Harris. The republicans winning will mean Mitch McConnell will continue leadership of the Senate. The outcome has dramatic effects on the entire LGBTQ community. First, it will help decide if Biden succeeds as new President or if he will face obstruction in the way Obama did in his second term. Second, it will effect any supreme court nominations for at least the next two years. LGBTQ rights hang in the balance of the supreme court. And third, a democratic controlled senate, along with already controlled house and white house will be the fastest path to a return of some type of normalcy vs the Trump lead last four years. Control of the Senate will have dramatic effects on legislation, especially passage of the Equality Act now hangs on the balance of what happens in Georgia.
