Today in an historic vote on President Trumps 2nd impeachment trial in the Senate, Trump escaped conviction by a narrow 55 to 45 Vote. A majority of US Senators said that Trump should be convicted after the House of Representatives significant vote to impeach the President a second time in approximately 1 year. But the majority required 67 Senators to vote yes. All 50 Democrats voted to convict the President and only 5 Republicans including Romney from Utah, Sasse from Nebraska, Collins from Maine, Toomey from Pennsylvania and Murkowski from Alaska. The lightning fast impeachment trial in the Senate was the fastest in history. It was notable that Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell initially said that Trump incited the riots that attacked America’s democracy and the Capitol on January 6. In the days since the attack it was clear, even with 5 deaths, that if the crowd would have been able to capture Vice President Pence or House Speaker Pelosi, we can’t imagine the consequences. That did not matter to the 45 as they supported and voted for Senator Rand Paul’s process arguments over the President not being in office and therefore they took the Supreme Court's role of determining Constitutionality away. They also supported Senator Lyndsey Grahams argument that America wants to move and forget the January 6 attack even though he said on January 6 he was finished with President Trump and was “moving on” in a completely different way. Polls show that the majority of Americans thought Trump should be convicted. Only 5 Republicans could bring themselves to agree. So now we move on. Or rather we move back… because this is a time machine projection of Queer News Tonight reporting one week into our future. We will see if the future holds true.
