On Monday, the nation was shocked when a gunman opened fire on a 4th of July parade in Chicago, killing 7. This morning the suspect, Bobby Crimo, also known as "Awake the Rapper" was arrested. Crimo's social media shows radicalized right-wing ideology and support of former President Trump. Police said he disguised himself wearing women's clothing during the attack. After multiple incidents during Pride Month, the gay community is on high alert. While many areas have already had their Pride Parades for the year, some parts of the country still are yet to celebrate. Closer to town, the Proud Boys this weekend had set up surveillance at Our House in Wynwood, harassing drag performers including our own Kitty Meow, and forcing authorities to step in. Political actions like Florida's "Don't Say Gay" bill that took effect on Friday seem to not only embolden attacks from the right-wing, but to validate them.
