The overwhelming majority of Americans support the historic pro-LGBTQ+ executive order signed by President Joe Biden in the first days of his administration. According to a survey conducted by the national polling firm Ipsos, respondents favored the sweeping order to enforce the Supreme Court’s 2020 ruling on LGBTQ+ workplace discrimination by a massive 67-point margin. An estimated 83% percent supported the Presidents first actions on LGBTQ equality and just 16% disapproved. Meanwhile, 2% of respondents had no response. After Biden signed the order on his second day in office, it was met with some backlash from TERF groups on the internet. As them. previously reported, the declaration instructed the federal government to extend the Bostock vs. Clayton County decision to civil rights issues in areas like housing, health care, and education. The order would prevent, for instance, a transgender homeless person from being admitted to a federally funded women’s shelter or a person living with HIV from being denied care at a hospital that recieves taxpayer dollars. But soon after the order was signed, transphobic trolls came out of the woodwork to claim that “Biden erased women,” as a hashtag of the same name alleged. In a tweet, the TERF organization Women’s Liberation Front called the decision a “disaster for women and girls in the U.S.” and seemingly threatened to challenge the action in court. Abigail Shrier, author of the transphobic-billboard-generating Irreversible Damage, said the order “unilaterally eviscerates women's sports and that a new glass ceiling was just placed over girls.” These arguments were also propelled by Fox News including Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingram. Early indications are those claims have been overwhelmingly rejected by the American people. A very good sign for LGBTQ America.
