Recently in Reddit’s r/ask community, a person polled the users to find out why so many people in their 20s seem miserable. They wondered if it was a byproduct of the world that younger Millennials and elder Gen Z live in, or if it’s something all generations have faced. Many users commented that costs of living are so high that many can’t afford to move out of their parents’ homes, making building relationships hard. LGBTQ+ in their 20’s talked about the persistent attacks on them by radical conservatives, politicians and the evangelical church. Some Gen X and Boomer users commented that the 20s are more difficult than many will admit, as the move into independent adulthood can be shocking and depressing. Many also commented that young adults in their 20s now live in a world without hope. This is the first time in more than 50 years that those Americans in their 20’s say they don’t think their generation will live better or be happier than the generations before them. Here at the Queer God Squad we ask, can faith and community help overcome these obstacles? Are people in their 20s truly all miserable?
