American support for LGBTQ+ rights is higher than ever. However, the gap between support among Democrats and Republicans has been widening. The Public Religion Research Institute, which has been focusing on this since 2015, found that Americans support laws that would prohibit discrimination against LGBTQ+ community members. They frown upon business owners who use religious grounds to refuse business to LGBTQ+ people.
Marc Ramirez of USA Today says that the support for the community has been on a steady and sometimes rocky climb. But some feel that the really hot issues that get the attention of the legislators become somewhat of political opportunism to swing voters in close races to win over conservative voters.
