The 81st Golden Globe Awards ceremony kicked off on Sunday, January 7, with a dazzling red carpet featuring plenty of LGBTQ+ talent and beauty. Between the casts from All of Us Strangers, Nyad, Rustin, Fellow Travelers, and The Last of Us, to name a few, the LGBTQ+ community got lots of LGBTQ+ representation at the 2024 Golden Globes. And we loved to see it! Queer stars also brought lots of vibrant looks to the 2024 Golden Globe Awards red carpet, proving once again there’s no runway they won’t shut down. Dylan Mulvaney gave us an entire Cinderella vision in a feathery pink gown with matching sandals. Hunger Games star Hunter Schafer had feather details of her own on a see-through gown over a white slip. Meanwhile, “Doctor Barbie” Hari Nef and Rustin star Colman Domingo rocked all-black looks with metallic details; in fact, Domingo wore a ring originally owned by Civil Rights icon Bayard Rustin himself. Also deserving of special shout-outs were Bella Ramsey’s sky-blue collared zip-up paired with chunky Chelsea boots, and Wanda Syke’s pearlescent pantsuit. As far as the queer winning moment is concerned, out Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” won the award for Best Original Song. However, to jinx this amazing day, award host Jo Koy made some “sexist” and “reductive” jokes about Barbie and Taylor Swift in his opening monologue. His comments like “Barbie is based on a plastic doll with big boobies” and nasty remark on having fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift on the Golden Globes compared to NFL prompted nominees to send him death glares from across the room and viewers to cringe from their sofas at home.
