A Texas lawmaker who authored a bill that would restrict drag performances appears to have dressed in drag himself while a student.
A video has surfaced on Twitter and TikTok showing Texas state Rep. Nate Schatzline, a Republican, skipping, running, and dancing in a park while donning a black sequined dress and a red eye mask. At the end of the roughly 90-second video — which plays over the song “Sexy Lady” by Javi Mula — the four participants are named, including Schatzline, whose character is called “The Virgin.”
Schatzline, however, has reacted to the viral Tweet saying, it was a costume for a theater performance, not drag. The House Bill, HB 1266, authored by Schatzline seeks to amend Texas’ Business and Commerce Code to define a venue that hosts a drag performance and authorizes on-premises consumption of alcoholic beverages as a sexually oriented business. Well, Schatzline is not the only person humiliating himself for his humiliating duality. Tennessee governor Bill Lee is anticipated to sign the nation’s first ban on public performances by “male or female impersonators” even though photos of him dressed as a woman have emerged on social media. Recently, a Reddit user shared a photo of a high-school student dressed in a cheerleader’s uniform, a pearl necklace, and a wig in a 1977 yearbook. He was none other than Tennessee governor Bill Lee.
