Anti LGBTQ+ Bills Could Have ‘Enormous Impact’ On HBCUs And Black LGBTQ+ Community

The recent spate of legislation targeting LGBTQ identities is threatening to negate some of the progress Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have made in providing safe spaces for members of the community. Over the past decade in particular, HBCUs have made a concerted effort to address the community’s concerns, from establishing LGBTQ+ centers on campus to changing admissions policies to allow transgender students to enroll. But now some fear the new legislation could have a chilling effect on that progress.

Supreme Court Deciding If Anti-Trans Law Should Go Into Effect

She’s asking to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals to hear the case, and they granted a stay during the process. West Virginia and its allies are asking the Chief Justice to lift the stay and let the law go into effect. He could decide or refer it to the entire court for a vote.

New Study LGBTQ+ Parents Raise Better Adjusted Children

New research reveals children of same-sex couples fare as well as or better than their peers raised by heterosexual couples.
The report, titled “Family outcome disparities between sexual minority and heterosexual families,” was published in the BMJ Global Health journal. The research included 34 studies across countries where same-sex relationships are legal.

Survey Says Tennessee’s Anti-LGBTQ+ Bills Could Cost State $2 Billion (And Growing)

According to the Tennessee General Assembly Fiscal Review Committee, Tennessee could lose up to $2 billion in revenue if the state legislature passes an anti-trans bill that defines sex as “biological anatomy at birth.”
A February 28 report from the committee says that the bill could result in increased state and local spending to comply with the new law.
