Florida mayors across the state are speaking out in support of LGBTQ rights in light of several bills targeting the community that have been passed by the state legislature and are heading to the desk of Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Howard Stern usually isn’t at the center of hot-topic conversations anymore, but the notorious shock jock has inserted himself into America’s culture war over LGBTQ+ visibility by challenging Kid Rock and other conservatives to explain why they are so incensed about transgender star Dylan Mulvaney’s partnership with Bud Light.
Halsey shared a Tweet announcing her partnership with Hard Rock Live to perform reimagined versions of their songs for a good cause. The donations and proceeds for the show will benefit two LGBTQIA+-focused organizations, Outright International and Human Rights Campaign.
During a debate over a bill that would prevent people from using bathrooms “designated for the opposite sex,” Rep. Webster Barnaby, R-Deltona, lashed out against the several transgender Floridians who spoke out against the bill. He called transgender Floridians “demons and imps” and compared them to “mutants from another planet” during a committee hearing. He compared the speakers, who included transgender Floridians and parents of transgender children, to the X-Men, characters from the Marvel comic books in which bigotry, hatred, and fear of mutants are central themes.
For the past two years, thousands of people have descended on a public park in Franklin, Tennessee for an LGBTQ+ pride festival featuring live music, food trucks, and crafts vendors. Clayton Klutts, the president of the Franklin Pride organization, viewed the event as a glowing symbol of how far a small, conservative community had come in terms of LGBTQ+ acceptance.
Candace Owens is at it again with her trolly comments, this time directing them at your favorite queer Disney pop princess and mine, JoJo Siwa. In a clip from her podcast uploaded to Twitter on April 4, Owens discussed Siwa for almost 6 minutes.
Bloggers Haoyang Xu and Gela Gogishvili, who originally hail from the countries of China and Georgia respectively, were arrested on April 5 over a YouTube video. The couple regularly records their lives as same-sex couple content creators in Russia.
Wolves issued a statement saying, “Homophobia, like all other forms of discrimination, has no place in football or society, and anyone engaging in discriminatory behavior is committing a criminal offense.”
Away team Chelsea FC also publicly condemned the incident, saying it finds all forms of discriminatory behavior totally unacceptable.
The Editorial Board of the Orlando Sentinel has published a scathing takedown of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for what it described as his “foolish, petty, and ultimately selfish political vendetta” against Disney.
DeSantis has made it clear he is unwilling to relent in his feud with the entertainment company — which all began with Disney’s opposition to DeSantis’s Don’t Say Gay law.
