$175k Awarded To South Florida “Gay Conversion Therapy” Providers In Federal Judgement

A federal judge has ordered Palm Beach County and the city of Boca Raton to pay $175,000 to two family therapists who challenged a local ban on gay conversion therapy for minors struggling with their sexuality, gender identity, and faith. Robert Otto and Julie Hamilton ran afoul of Boca Raton’s ban on conversion therapy, which considered the practice harmful to the health and emotional development of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and other youth.

Florida Senate Votes 28-12 To Ban Children At Drag Shows

On April 8th, 2023, the Florida Senate voted 28-12 in favor of a bill that would allow the state to revoke liquor licenses of restaurants and entertainment venues that let children attend drag shows. The bill’s language defined drag performance as “prurient, shameful, or morbid interest” that violates what adults deem appropriate for children to witness.

Nebraska lawmakers haven’t passed a single bill this session, as a state lawmaker, senator Machaela Cavanaugh, continues a weeks-long filibuster protest over trans rights and vows to “burn this session to the ground” if she has to. Starting in February, Cavanaugh has filibustered every bill that has come before the legislature this session. She is protesting proposal LB574 — or the “Let Them Grow Act” — which was put forward by a Republican lawmaker.

A total of 15 European Union countries have joined a legal case against Hungary’s Child Protection Law, widely criticized as being anti-LGBT. Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Austria, Ireland, Denmark, Malta, Spain, Sweden, Finland, Slovenia, France, Germany, and Greece, together with the European Parliament, will act as third parties in the lawsuit filed last year by the European Commission. The deadline to join the case ended on April 6th.
