Varian Fry was an American journalist who played a critical role in rescuing Jews and other refugees from Nazi-occupied France during World War II. Although his sexual orientation was never explicitly confirmed, there is evidence to suggest that Fry may have been gay – a fact that could have had dire consequences for him at the time.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, who is lesbian and Jewish, was one of the state officials threatened by a man who vowed to kill all the Jews in the Michigan government if they don’t leave office. Nessel tweeted confirming the news. Besides Nessel, Jewish government officials in Michigan include U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin and several state legislators.
In the past two years, state lawmakers in nearly three dozen states across the country have introduced more than 300 bills targeting trans-Americans, 86% focusing on trans youth. Idit Klein’s article in The Forward says,
