A coalition of organizations serving families and parents in Florida has come together to launch Equality Florida’s new statewide program, Parenting With Pride. The goal is to create a hub of resources for queer families
Leading civil rights organizations, including the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the NAACP, and Equality Florida, have jointly issued a travel advisory for Florida.
LGBTQ+ advocates and Disney fans are expressing concern over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ anti-LGBTQ+ policies and their potential impact on the “Happiest Place on Earth.” The state’s recent “Don’t Say Gay” law has prompted Equality Florida to issue a travel advisory warning tourists of the “hostile” policies.
The Florida State Conference of the NAACP also voted to issue a travel advisory against Florida. Board of Directors Chairman Leon W. Russell said, “Any location in America where our history has been erased does not offer us, or our children a bright future.”
The LGBTQ+ Social Justice & Equity Funders Collaborative, a unique collaboration between The Our Fund Foundation and the Community Foundation of Broward, granted eight non-profit organizations a total of $250,000 in support of innovative initiatives supporting social equity and the civil liberties of LGBTQ+ residents of Broward County.
Miami Beach Pride 2023, which concluded on April 16 will be remembered for many things, including Florida House Rep. Fabián Basabe. The pride started on March 31 featuring many fun and awareness events, from Pride Lights the Night and Pool Party, Queer Art Showcase to dinner, pageant, Movie Night, and a pride parade at Ocean Drive.
Nicole Murray Ramirez, a legendary voice in LGBT activism, was recently honored with the Harvey Milk medal at the Harvey Milk Foundation Pride Center of Equality Park in Florida. In an interview with Al Ferguson at the Diversity Honors event, Ramirez shared her thoughts on the award and her 50 years of advocacy, including working with Harvey Milk.
Fried and Book were among several protesters arrested by police for peacefully demonstrating outside the Governor’s Mansion. The arrests sparked outrage among many in the LGBTQ+ community, who see the proposed ban as part of a larger effort to restrict reproductive rights and LGBTQ+ rights.
The walk is a great way to give back to your community. This year, the walk was organized on March 18. This 5K walk started and finished at Fort Lauderdale Beach Park. The program started at 8 AM with DJ Ed Talks on stage and the walk began at 10 AM.
A complaint filed with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) reported that during the December break, the high-end hotel hosted “A Drag Queen Christmas” featuring prosthetic genitals, performers rubbing fake breasts on audience members, simulated masturbation as well as graphic depictions of childbirth and/or abortion.
