New Dehli surgeon Dr. Narenda Kaushik who runs the Olmec Transgender Surgery Institute has announced plans to implant a donated uterus into a transgender woman. The goal is to allow the woman to become pregnant via IVF so that she can give birth. The first recorded attempt to implant a uterus into a trans woman was in 1931, but the woman, Lili Elbe, passed away from an infection. There have been successful uterine implants in cisgender women, and in 2014 a transplant recipient gave birth to a healthy child.
