LGBTQ voters could flip a historically Republican district in the California desert by giving Democrats the opportunity to claim a US House seat in November. With the midterm elections around the corner, Democrats are making a final push. Republican rep. Ken Calvert has been representing the Inland Empire region since 1993, but after redrawing the political map Palm Springs is added to his district where he is running against Democrat Will Rollins, who is an openly gay former federal prosecutor. Many believe that he joined 46 of his Republican colleagues to vote in favor of protecting LGBTQ marriage rights in July to gain an advantage over his gay opponent.
