Last week, Florida lawmakers passed a bill that would gravely impact the ability to discuss sexual orientation, gender identity, and LGBTQ+ people in classrooms statewide. Titled the Parental Rights in Education bill, or the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The legislation permits parents to pursue legal action if they believe that their child’s school district is violating the “fundamental right of parents to make decisions regarding the upbringing and control of their children.” As we mentioned at the start of the show, we are here live in person at a rally where community leaders are speaking against the bill. What can we as students do to help stop this from passing and raise awareness?
