Queer God Squad Considers The Popes Double Down Against Conservatives Over Same-Sex Blessings

In a recent interview on the Italian talk show "Che Tempo Che Fa," Pope Francis defended his controversial decision to allow priests to bless same-sex couples. Despite facing widespread opposition, particularly from African bishops and bishops in Eastern Europe, Latin America, and beyond, the Pope emphasized that the Lord blesses everyone. The Vatican's December 18 declaration reaffirmed the traditional teaching that marriage is a lifelong union between a man and a woman. However, it permitted priests to offer spontaneous, non-liturgical blessings to same-sex couples, provided these blessings do not resemble the rites and rituals of a wedding. Acknowledging the resistance to his decision, Pope Francis attributed it to lack of understanding by bishops and their reluctance to engage in dialogue. When asked if he felt alone in his decision, the Pope responded, "You take a decision, and solitude is a price you have to pay." He urged for a brotherly discussion instead of hardening hearts and drawing ugly conclusions. Witnessing Pope Francis steadfastly standing by his views is surely a sign of hopeful future for the LGBTQ+ believers. However, is it enough? How long is the wait going to be till churches across the world accept and respect marriage equality and the entire LGBTQ+ community?
