Now A Canadian Town Bans Gay By Public Vote

Residents of Westlock, Alberta, Canada, have made a divisive decision regarding the display of flags and the presence of a Pride-painted crosswalk in their town. By a narrow margin of 663 to 639, voters opted to restrict municipal buildings to flying only federal, provincial, and municipal flags while removing the rainbow-colored crosswalk from in front of city hall. The vote followed a petition calling for "neutrality" in public spaces. Despite the outcome, Mayor Jon Kramer reaffirmed the council's commitment to equity and inclusion, pledging continued support for marginalized groups in alternative ways.
