Elizabeth Morales, a teacher at Felix Varela Senior High School in Miami, didn't shy away from decorating her classroom with rainbows for the start of school last week. She has run the Gay Straight Alliance Club at the school for 14 years and promotes her classroom as a safe space. While the new Parental Rights In Education bill, called "Don't Say Gay" by opponents, only restricts discussion of gender or sexual identity in kindergarten through 3rd grade, the law has the ambiguous "or when age appropriate" addition that has many teacher of older students concerned. Many school districts have blocked any displays of LGBTQ+ friendly imagery for fears that parents may sue the schools or teachers under the new law. Morales told Axios, "In my situation, I have kids who have opened up to me for years.
