The Miami Dade School Board on Wednesday night voted against a proposal asking for the recognition of October as LGBTQ History Month. In the previous year, the district voted 7-1 in favor of a similar proposal. But, doubting it would violate the state’s Parental Rights in Education law, every board member, except one, voted against the proposal this year. This decision was made irrespective of the fact that the board’s own attorney found the proposal built on solid legal ground.
