Lil Nas X has responded to anti-trans activist Oli London‘s criticism of his Halloween costume, which depicted him as a blood-soaked tampon. The singer, known for occasionally stirring up controversy, unveiled his Halloween outfit, complete with a blonde bloodied wig, thigh-high latex heels, and a painted representation of a vagina.
Reactions to the costume were mixed, with some finding it humorous and others expressing offense, claiming it mocked women. Oli London, an internet personality known for promoting anti-trans rhetoric and undergoing multiple plastic surgeries to resemble a South Korean pop star, joined the critics. London posted on Twitter, “Singer Lil Nas mocks women by dressing as a giant bloody tampon for Halloween. His Instagram post received almost 500,000 likes.”
Lil Nas X swiftly clapped back at London, responding, “My brother in xenu, u had surgery to look south korean for the rest of your life, I was a c*** tampon for 1 halloween. Please perish.”
While opinions on Lil Nas X’s costume varied, many found his reply to London quite impactful. Some Twitter users praised the singer’s response, with one writing, “LMFAAAAO ate him up. I might not like the costume either but he made points.”
In a follow-up tweet, Lil Nas X expressed his frustration, saying, “I’ve been silent for nearly 2 years y’all are not finna pretend to be mad about a tampon costume. Let me at least get new music out first.”
This incident is not the first time London has faced public backlash and embarrassment from celebrities. Earlier this year, he had a debate with YouTuber Ethan Klein, during which he misquoted a 2021 study to support his claim that gender dysphoria resulted from bullying. However, Klein corrected London, pointing out that the study actually concluded that bullying could lead trans youth to “maintain heteronormativity.” London’s inaccurate interpretation was noted by Klein, leaving London stunned and unable to defend his position.
