In May 2023, Daniel McGarrigle, previously employed as a production assistant on the HBO series "We're Here," initiated a civil lawsuit against Shangela for sexual assault. Shangela refuted the allegations with a previous investigation yielding little evidence to support the claims. Now, the lawsuit has been withdrawn by the accuser. According to court documents, McGarrigle participated in mediation with Shangela and reached an agreement to dismiss the lawsuit with prejudice by March 1, 2024. The lawsuit asserted that McGarrigle did not report the purported assault earlier due to employment concerns. However, soon he resigned after persistent unwanted attention from Pierce. HBO now intends to launch a fourth season of "We're Here," however, with a revamped lineup: Priyanka, Sasha Velour, and Jaida Essence Hall.
