The start of February is also the start of Black History Month. HOTspots Happening Out is ready to celebrate 2024 Black History Month in Wilton Manors with two important and equally entertaining events and you all are invited. The Cookout: A Black History Month Celebration on February 3 is one of HOTspots Happening Out’s continuing efforts to showcase that the City of Wilton Manors is welcoming to all races and ethnicities, and is committed to building upon the race relations within the diverse Island City. The event will be held at Mickel Park and it will be open to the public. The Cookout will feature food, music and games at cost. But that is not it! The Cookout is a fundraiser that donates all proceeds from the celebration to a worthy organization that serves in the advancement of Black and Brown LGBTQ+ people. The 2024 Beneficiary is the New Era Lodge No. 69. The Lodge is the Fort Lauderdale Chapter of the Prince Hall Masonic Origin. It is the first of the 300 year old Prince Hall Masonry to have an Openly Gay and Black Worshipful Master, Ederick Johnson, also the youngest of leaders. Feel free to donate at this event to support the community. The fundraiser will also be an opportunity for you to be a part of the Public Reading of City’s Black History Month Honoree Proclamation. The second important event of this day will be at the opening reception at the Hotspots Art Gallery with Dennis Dean later at the day. And the theme will be Black History Month. Art exhibition at the gallery will be dedicated to the theme and it will be open to everyone. All the details about both the events will be available on hotspotsmagazine.com.
