H.B. 800, introduced by Tennessee Representative Bruce Griffey would ban textbooks or instructional materials that “promote, normalize, support or address LGBT issues or lifestyle.” Griffey even wrote that into the very text of the bill stating, "WHEREAS, the promotion of LGBT issues and lifestyles in public schools offends a significant portion of students, parents, and Tennessee residents with Christian values..." Griffey tried to pass this same bill in 2021, although it failed at that time. Queer News Tonight would like to point out the very first words of the First Amendment, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion."
