Rick Reed, owner of Sweeties Diner in Fort Pierce, has been fighting with the chief of police and mayor for years. Reed claims in a lawsuit against the city that starting in 2016, the Chief of Police Diane Hobley-Burney instructed her officers to begin targeting him with traffic violations and warnings. The conflict began when the former Mayoral candidate turned restaurant owner sided with the family of a 21-year-old unarmed black motorist who was shot and killed by a traffic cop. When Reed asked the Justice Department to step into the investigation, the fight with Hobley-Burney approached him telling him he should stop. After being banned from city hall meetings, Reed began targeting the Chief and the Mayor with jokes on his restaurant's signs. The jokes change daily, and don't always target the 2 women, but frequently they do. Recently he came under fire for the line "What do you call a lesbian dinosaur? A Lickalotofpuss." He claims that remark was not targeting the Chief, stating that it would be "offensive to lesbian dinosaurs everywhere." Past lines that were obviously targeting the officials include "If the Mayor & Police Chief lived together, they'd be broom-mates." He has also proven he is not above fat-shaming the Chief, once posting 'Now playing at Ft. Pierce Police Department: The Blob, starring Hobley-Bobley'.
