wearing makeup when speaking through the theologian Marcella Althaus-Reid, appearing manly as Bahaullah,
and divinely feminine as Quan Yin, serving butch wisdom realness through Lea Delaria, and queenly compassion through RuPaul,
you’ve performed in Jesus drag, angel drag, prophet drag, poet drag, mystic drag, nature drag, and today we ask you to grant your blessing to all who embrace the art of drag.
Drag performers have made us laugh when tears were too abundant. Drag performers helped us raise money for gay affirming churches, for programs to shelter abandoned queer youth, for services to help those living with AIDS.
Drag performers got us cheering in parades, and they had us dancing to the sacred beat of club music, the great hymnody of our community.
Drag performers have been our shamans, our banner carriers, our cheerleaders, our clowns, our healers, our living witnesses to the goodness of human sexuality and the complexity of gender experience and expression.
They stood up to bullies by standing up in heals, and wigs, and boots, and costume jewelry.
