US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is well known for her outspoken manor and her desire to connect with the most marginalized communities. Recently while attending legislative sessions in Puerto Rico, AOC did a series of Instagram Live broadcasts where she discussed everything from Taino heritage and how the Puerto Rican community has helped build her home district of the Bronx to the ways that the Spanish language has changed over the years. While the term Latinx first started popping up online in 2004, it wasn't until after the events of Pulse that it gained popularity. A poll done last year by Politico, however, shows that only about 2% of people use the term to identify themselves.
