Yesterday, Queer News Tonight discussed extensively the possibility of Biden winning the election. After the defeat of Nikki Haley in the New Hampshire Primary, Trump seems like a certainty in November against President Biden. This is something every Democrat and LGBTQ+ community wants. The polls are also showing favorable scenarios for Biden Trump standing in his opposition. As the focus intensifies on this pivotal matchup, attention turns to the status of LGBTQ+ issues in the political arena. Trump’s anti-LGBTQ+ views are not a secret anymore. He has supported Florida’s DeSantis bigotry on transition-related medical care and participation of trans kids in school sports. Trump has also pledged to revoke President Joe Biden's policies on transition-related care if he becomes president for a second time. While president, Trump banned the trans community from serving in the military - a policy that Biden reversed. Trump has indicated he would re-establish the ban if he wins. Lambda Legal says that nearly 40% of federal judges appointed by Trump to courts of appeals had demonstrated a history of anti-LGBTQ+ bias. Biden on the other hand is committed to being a champion for LGBTQ+ people every day in the White House. If the appointment of Judge Melissa Dubose and Nicole Berner gets confirmed, it would bring the total number of appointed LGBTQ+ judges to 11 in Biden’s first term alone. It is no wonder that the LGBTQ+ community and its allies will be closely monitoring the upcoming election as it will determine the trajectory of LGBTQ+ rights and protections in the United States.
