Steven Ostrow, creator of The Continental Baths, where stars like Bette Midler rose to fame, has passed away at 91. Born in Brooklyn on September 16, 1932, Ostrow revolutionized NYC's gay scene in 1968 by opening The Continental Baths. Dissatisfied with existing clubs, he created this vibrant space for performers and patrons. From Melissa Manchester to Nell Carter, many stars kickstarted their careers here. Ostrow's legacy extends beyond entertainment; he transformed a seedy culture into a platform for talent. His vision shaped the careers of numerous artists, leaving an indelible mark on LGBTQ+ history. Rest in peace, Steven Ostrow.
