Republican Representative Lauren Boebert faced ridicule at a congressional dinner following a previous incident at a theater where she was spotted vaping, causing a disturbance, and engaging in inappropriate behavior with her date.
During the Washington Press Club Foundation’s annual congressional dinner on January 31, fellow Republican Lisa McClain took a jab at Boebert, saying, “Please keep your hands above the table, and I know it’s date night for some of you, but no inappropriate touching. That includes you, Lauren Boebert. No vaping either.”
A video of McClain’s speech, shared on Twitter, garnered over 3,000 likes, with many joining in on the jest at Boebert’s expense.
McClain’s remark alluded to a September incident at The Buell Theatre in Denver, where Boebert, known for accusing the LGBTQ+ community of inappropriate behavior, was ejected from a family-friendly musical for engaging in disruptive behavior, including vaping and inappropriate touching with her companion.
In her apology, Boebert attributed her actions to being “maybe overtly animated” and partly blamed her divorce. The politician has faced criticism for her anti-abortion stance, denial of climate change, and deliberate misgendering of a transgender individual.
Boebert’s bid for re-election hit a hurdle when she suffered a fifth-place finish in a Colorado district straw poll. In December, she announced plans to move from the third congressional district, where she has served since 2021, to the more Republican-leaning fourth district, citing a need for a fresh start for herself and her family.
