Israel's Ministry of Defense has decided to extend equal recognition to same-sex couples under the law pertaining to families of soldiers who have died in service. This decision follows the loss of a gay IDF officer shortly before his planned marriage. The joint announcement from the Ministry of Defense and the Speaker of the Knesset confirmed the interpretation of the law. This decision comes after Knesset Speaker Ohana's letter to Minister Galant, in which he underscored that, amidst ongoing conflict and sacrifice by IDF personnel, discrimination should have no place. He emphasized the importance of fairness and equal treatment for all IDF members, irrespective of their sexual orientation.
