Welcome to Queer News Tonight. We are live, Thursday, October 28, 2021 with breaking news. Famous Church Pastor Suggests Hate Attack Burning Gay Man Is Using Bible Scriptures For Demonic Purposes This week the LGBTQ+ community was shocked when in Jamaica, a man was lured into a meeting from a gay dating app. When the meeting took place at the rendezvous location, it became clear that three men had baited the gay man and then beat him, partially cut off his penis and then set him ablaze. The gay man survived and is recovering in a Jamaican hospital. We do not release his name for his own protection. Jamaica is one of the most homophobic nations in the Caribbean and Western Hemisphere and is also devoutly religious being lead by very conservative churches including Pentecostal, Church of God and Seventh Day Adventist. Churches in Jamaica have preached from their pulpits for decades an anti-LGBTQ message and even violence messages. Many human rights organizations in the US and around the world, including the United Nations have called for a change in rhetoric and tone on the island nation. This week, Noted pastor, Rev. Dr. Durrell Watkins, the leader of the largest queer church in the world suggested that biblical scripture “was being used for demonic purposes.” Queer News Tonight reached out to Watkins for explanation. He indicated he changed much of his Sunday sermon to a world-wide broadcast audience because of his emotional reaction to the attack in Jamaica.
