Arizona House Bill 2161 states, "An employee of this state...shall not withhold from a minor child's parent any information that is relevant to the physical, emotional, or mental health of the parent's child... Conduct in violation of this subsection is grounds for discipline of the employee." This means that a teacher must alert a parent if a student tells them anything about their mental health, including if they are LGBTQ+. Opponents of the bill fear this could lead to the forced outing of students to parents who may not be supportive, putting the children at risk.
