Marvia Malik, Pakistan’s first trans news anchor narrowly escaped gunmen who attempted to assassinate her. Two gunmen opened fire on her during the early hours of February 24 when she was returning home from a nearby pharmacy. The attackers are yet to be found. Malik became the country’s first-ever transgender TV news anchor in 2018 after appearing on a broadcast of Kohenoor News. She reportedly received several threatening phone calls before the attack due to her position as an activist for LGBTQ+ rights.
