Lawmakers in several states are looking to follow California's lead and offer refuge for transgender youth who are being discriminated against in their home states. Minnesota and New York have already moved to push through legislation offering refuge to transgender individuals, modeled after a similar bill proposed in California by Senator Scott Wiener. An initiative announced this week by the LGBTQ Victory Institute and other activists groups is being joined by lawmakers in Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington and West Virginia.
