Urvashi Vaid was an iconic activist. Born in 1958 in New Delhi, India, she moved to the USA as a child when her father became a University professor. She started her life as an activist early, participating in anti-Vietnam protests at age 11. She was the president of Vaid Group, LLC, a group that works with social justice innovators, movements, and organizations to address inequalities based on sexual orientation, gender identity, race, and economic status. She also founded LPAC, the first Lesbian Super PAC, and for more than 10 years worked at the National LGBTQ Task Force. She published multiple books, and won many awards for her writing and activism. She is survived by her partner, comedian Kate Clinton.
