December means many things to many people. To the LGBTQ+ community we start December off with World Aids Day. The annual event began in 1988 to commemorate the millions lost to AIDS. Queer News Tonight partnered with Care Resource Miami, one of South Florida’s most important LGBTQ+ and broad community health providers. Our broadcast was the first ever event held at the 7th floor open deck space overlooking Miami’s beautiful Biscayne Bay. The special edition of Queer News Tonight lead to a Care Resource tribute to World AIDS Days with the theme “Healing Through The Arts” hosted by their Communications Director Jonathon Welsh. Special Presentations included Care Resource Executive Director Rick Siclari and major sponsors like Gilead. The special event included a who’s who of South Florida dignitaries. The event included spoken word readings and awards for dedicated volunteers who have given so much to our community. A candlelight vigil remembered those lost to AIDS/HIV and those people living with HIV. A feature was an array of radiant art pieces and amazing dance performances. The live performances was hosted by John Buckley from Unity Coalition and featured United Ballroom Houses of South Florida. A highlight included an amazing performance by Daisy Deadpetals as Madonna. Queer News Tonight broadcast the event as part of the evening news broadcast on Apple TV and Roku. The event incorporated the four pillars to ending the epidemic including diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and respons. A secret surprise was the interview appearance of Dr. Anthony Fauci. He spoke about Care Resource, World AIDS Day and the importance of the LGBTQ+ community to bring us to the importance of this moment in time.
