You’re welcome. As in: You Are Welcome here. In this week’s SFGN, online and on stands tomorrow, I have three stories of unexpected inclusivity. First: The Haunt at Tree Top Park in Davie is having a haunted Pride night this Friday. Second, I attended Sunday’s Dolphins game where they had an LGBTQ+ tailgate party, Day OUT with the Dolphins. Third is the new, extremely inclusive Visit Lauderdale marketing campaign “Everyone Under the Sun.” None of these are Earth-shattering, but they are each important and impactful. When you think of LGBTQ+, Halloween haunts, manly football, and the world of advertising don’t immediately come to mind. But more and more.. they do! In a dark time, when our community is under attack at the state and local levels, these events serve as bright lights. Our allies aren’t passively supporting us. They’re standing up for us, loud and proud. Stacy Ritter, the brilliant mind behind the “Everyone Under the Sun” campaign told me, “We don’t care how you identify. What gender, what pronoun you use if you use a pronoun at all. We don’t care if you’re gay or straight. We just want you to enjoy yourself.
