The EuroPride march route has been officially banned by Serbian police after mass anti-LGBTQ+ protests. The EuroPride march takes place in a different European city every year and was to take place in Belgrade on September, 17 as part of Serbia’s bid for membership in the European Union. But the event came under increasing scrutiny by religious and anti-LGBTQ+ protests, including the one led by clergy from the Serbian Orthodox Church, who used rhetoric reasons such as “saving children '' and “protecting family values'' to push their hateful message. Serbian police officially announced a ban on the route of the EuroPride march in September, 13 weeks after Serbian president Aleksandar Vučić postponed the event indefinitely.
