Anti-LGBTQ demonstrators protesting outside an Anderson Distillery and Grill in Roanoke, Texas, were met by armed Antifa on August 28th. The demonstrators were protesting against an all-ages drag event. There were family and children in attendance, which drew out protestors from groups such as the Texas Family Project, Protect Texas Kids, and the Proud Boys. A Rolling Stone journalist Tweeted pictures of anti-LGBTQ protesters holding signs that said, “Drag the queens out of town,” “Children cannot consent,” and “Stop sexualizing children,” and “Caution: Monkeypox hotspot approx. 50 ft away. Stay back.” Many of the anti-trans people are anti-LGBTQ in general, and many are Republican. Some have repeatedly claimed that anyone who lets children know that LGBTQ individuals exist is trying to “groom” them for rape, and that includes performance artists at drag shows.
