After a gay couple was seen kissing in a park in Bogotá, a crowd of homophobic women assaulted them. The group of women, one of whom had a broomstick she was swinging at the couple, shouted "in this neighbourhood we don't allow sex in the park, especially not in front of children" and "If you don't leave, we'll lynch you". In support of the couple, hundreds of same-sex couples staged a "besatón" or "kiss-in-athon" at the park, which is in the Engativá neighbourhood of the capital. Same-sex marriage has been legal in Columbia since 2016, and unlike the US, the LGBTQ+ is federally protected from discrimination.
