In this week’s Out South Florida, I take a look at LGBTQ+ Halloween Events from Fantasy Fest in Key West to Moonfest in West Palm Beach. And, of course, the epicenter of our Halloween: Wicked Manors. This year’s theme, Little Drive of Horrors, is Tuesday, Halloween night. There will be costume contests, starting with one for kids at 6:30 and getting progressively more adult as the night goes on. Stages will line the drive from Tropics to The Manor/Venue and have DJs, performers, and more. Some bars, like The Pub, will have their own costume contests. Tap That Ash is having its first Wicked Manors, and is celebrating all weekend with Happy Hour running from Friday through Halloween and a costume contest every night. Co-owner Diane Resnick told me, “Tap That Ash is ready to thrill, surprise, and fulfill every spooky desire you may have!” But, the Wicked Witch of the North is sitting in Tallahassee and casting a shadow over the celebration. The Pride Center produces the event, and CEO Robert Boo told me that while drag queens generally, and drag performers specifically, will be allowed in, a code of conduct banning lewd behavior will be enforced. A federal judge put Gov. Ron DeSantis’ anti-drag law is on hold, but organizers are taking a “better safe than sorry” approach.
