Bells began to ring across America today to honor the 400,000 lives lost to Covid-19. Here at Ft Lauderdale's Sunshine Cathedral they had 19 bells of remembrance. On the eve of their inauguration, President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris spoke today at the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool in Washington, D.C., to honor the lives lost to Covid-19 including those in the LGBTQ community. It was their last act as President-elect and Vice President-elect for Biden and Harris. Their remarks today at 5:30 p.m. memorialized 400,000 Americans dead from Covid-19. The events are stark as this is the last day for President Trump and his administration who completely failed in their year long response to Coronavirus. Trump ignored, denied, lied and ultimately took no responsibility for weaponizing the response to Covid-19 that led to a dramatic number of unnecessary deaths. That is what made today’s events at the National Mall so stark in proof that the new administration wanted to send a strong signal of change in facing the pandemic. Today, as Donald Trump ends, more than 28,000 LGBTQ Americans under his leadership have died of Coronavirus in the last year. The President has not addressed Covid-19 since losing the election on November 3, 2020. For more than two months, as millions more have contracted the virus and tens of thousands have died, the President has said or done nothing. So today’s somber memorial with more than 200,000 american flags tell everyone in our community that tomorrow will be a new day. We take a moment to remember those affected, those millions that lost their jobs, those trillions lost, but most important of all, the 400,000 dead. This moment will never be forgotten. We hear the bells.
