Nonbinary individuals have existed throughout history. The Egyptian Pharaoh Hatshepsut was assigned female at birth, but would frequently present themselves in person and in art as both genders. Being gender fluid is just one example of being nonbinary. Others, like rapper Angel Haze, identify as agender. Yet others identify is bigender, or as it is called in many Native American cultures, "two-spirit." People who identify this way feel both male and female at the same time, instead of one or the other. In 2012, International Non-Binary People's Day was first celebrated. The day is observed on July 14th, the half-way point between International Men's Day and International Women's Day. The week surrounding that day has become an important week for celebrating awareness of Nonbinary people, pronouns, and what being non-binary means.
