On Monday, the day of the 10th anniversary of the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, the VA announced that service members discharge for their sexual identity will be eligible for full benefits. In a statement the department said, "LGBTQ+ Veterans are not any less worthy of the care and services that all Veterans earn through their service, and VA is committed to making sure that they have equal access to those services." According to the VA, approximately 100,000 service members were discharged for their sexuality, including an estimated 14,000 discharged during the 17 years of Don't Ask Don't Tell.
