The Dinah Was Known As 'The Biggest Lesbian Party In the World'. After 30 Years Here Is What Has Happened
The first Dinah was thrown in 1991 at the Palm Springs Art Museum. It was intended as a party for Queer women who were attending the Dinah Shore Nabisco Classic women's golf tournament. According to Mariah Hanson, the promoter who created the party, the first one was a disaster. Not enough security and too much alcohol led to women dancing topless on the museum's roof, putting out cigarettes in sand sculptures, and someone even stole a cowboy hat off a priceless statue. Now the party has grown to a 5 day weekend that starts tonight. 30 years later it's still a wild time, but it has also grown to be an important community event.
